Breastfeeding Recommendations

The American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization recommend exclusive breastfeeding for about the first 6 months, with continued breastfeeding once complementary foods are introduced, for up to 2 years of age or longer.


What is an IBCLC?

International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) are allied-health professionals and members of the maternal-child healthcare team. The IBCLC certification is the gold standard of lactation care and requires years of extensive training, including college-level health science coursework. They provide advanced skilled lactation care in a variety of settings while making appropriate referrals to other healthcare professionals and community support resources. Breastfeeding USA Online Support Groups
Each group is private, administered, and moderated by accredited Breastfeeding USA Counselors with experience specific to their group.

Lactation University's Virtual Support Group
Online meetings are hosted by Lactation University Volunteers. LUVs are qualified, trained lactation specialists who desire to support families in their feeding goals. Leaders offer free community groups and private breastfeeding support via online and in-person meetings, book clubs, and social media platforms.

Breastmilk Donation

The Milk Bank
The Milk Bank impacts the greater Midwest area through the safe collection and distribution of pasteurized donor human milk.
Donors must complete medical screening. Families may request donor milk.  

Prolacta Bioscience
Donate milk to be used for critically ill and premature babies.
Donors must complete medical screening; monetary compensation available.
